Have you found yourself in the following situation?
Hey, not this problem again! ... but wait, how was that I solved the same problem last time?
Well, the above has happened to me so many times (and I have lost so many post-it notes and notebooks) that I ended asking for the help of technology.
Some tools
I started using Google Notebook (unfortunately now phased out) and eventually moved to Evernote, Wunderlist and many other tools online that have help me to organize those old solutions to problems that once I knew and didn't have to use them until ... well until I needed them.
Information resources
A dictionary, a reference book, an encyclopedia are traditionally information resources where we found answers to old problems and questions. These days when we have a problem we go to the internet and find solutions in blogs, forums, sites specialized in giving answers and, of course, in Wikipedia!
Two heads are better than one
Apart from having tons of information available at the typing of our fingers (and an internet connection!) we have all together unleashed the power of collaboration. If "Two heads are better than one" imagine what million heads can do ... Well, the caveat is that it sometimes feels like a mess =)
So then why? ... why another site?
Why to create yet another Knowledge Base?. Well, simply put, because:
- I need one place where to keep and quickly find those answers to recurrent problems
- You may need the same answers and perhaps also a place where to put and share your own
Welcome to this wiki!
So welcome to this wiki! I know this is an ambitious project and even perhaps a technical challenge for some as you have to learn the "formatting language" to write a wiki page in this site (but believe me, it's not rocket science as you can see here).
But everything starts with the first steps ... and one of these is to guide ourselves with some basic...
Recommendations
Those are meant to keep this site true to its objective of easy access to answers. Their spirit is guided by the keyword simplicity and your criteria asking and answering yourself the following question:
When needed another time, can I easily remember or find on the web the answer to my question?
If you answer NO then this site is where your Question and Answer (Q&A) entry is very much welcome!
- Keep in mind that this is not a forum where to ask questions for other to answer. It's us who contribute answers difficult to find
- Respect and contribute to the general structure of the site. Build the structure from general subjects to the specific ones
- Keep your Q&As entries simple, preferably in step-by-step format. Use external links to reference to larger amounts of information
By the way, feel free to comment or discuss everything I have said above in the discussion page.
So that's all folks for now, welcome once again and happy writing and easy finding of answers to your common questions!
